The first panel in this year’s symposium will discuss the bail decision — what is sometimes described as the most consequential decision in the life of a case. With an eye toward improving outcomes, the panelists will discuss best practices for presenting arguments in support of release or detention, common concerns from the bench, effective strategies for pretrial supervision, and surprising lessons from recent national studies of federal bail practice.
